Jail Career Criminals
Career criminals with hundreds of offences are avoiding prison. Just 10 percent of offenders are responsible for HALF of all crime in Britain - but instead of being incarcerated to protect the public from their crimes, too often they are given short sentences or no prison time at all.
And now the Government’s Sentencing Review is proposing EVEN WEAKER SENTENCES for these career criminals. Even MI5 and the Met police have now warned that the government’s plans risk public safety, placing ‘more pressure on policing’.
We, the undersigned, have three major DEMANDS of the government and judiciary:
JAIL CAREER CRIMINALS
Ensure that each subsequent offence by a career criminal results in a proportionally longer prison sentence. More crime must mean more time.
STOP RELEASING PRISONERS EARLY
Maximise use of the prison estates. Do everything you can to clear the courts backlog, ensuring all courtrooms are in full use, convening weekend and night courts if necessary. And build more prisons than are currently planned, on a much more rapid timescale.
DON’T GIVE CRIMINALS EVEN WEAKER SENTENCES
Drop David Gauke’s sentencing review proposals, they are a danger to the public. Keep the most dangerous criminals locked up for their full sentences. Jail career criminals.
